Where did this list come from? I quickly looked up a couple of names and Bellows was from Ohio, Church from Connecticut and Avery from New York. So I'm highly skeptical that this list is of any use except perhaps as a list of American painters. Zoicon5

According to the history it came from list of painters. Maybe it was meant to include people who spent much time painting in Maine? Who can tell...
What I normally do in these situations is fix the errors I know about and add a disclaimer from wikipedia:accuracy dispute to tell readers that there might be other errors. But if it is completely useless, maybe it should be deleted... Martin 20:59 22 Jul 2003 (UTC)
